#Tech_Troubles VS Shushan Purim: Retaining AI Experts in a World of Giants

Let’s be honest… In the war for AI talent, the average startup can’t outbid Google or Meta with a blank check. They will always be able to add another zero to the bonus or offer a more glittering RSU package.
So, how do you keep the people building your IP? At Gifthead, we see that the answer isn't "more money" (or at least, not just that...). It’s Impact and Context. Oh, and a genuine employee experience. ;)
A fancy kitchenette won't drive career decisions, but a stellar team and attentive leadership definitely will.
1. Ownership Above All
An AI expert wants to see their model in Production, not just be another cog in a 50,000-person machine. In a startup, their code impacts the company by tomorrow morning. Ensure they feel like "owners" of the product, not just "task executors."
2. Access to the Hottest Infrastructure
AI talent lives on the bleeding edge. If you skimp on compute power or restrict them to outdated models- you’ve lost them. They want to play with H100s, experiment with the latest Agentic Frameworks, and be the first to implement tech that was released yesterday.
3. Flexibility is No Longer a "Perk" - It’s the Standard
Tech giants are pushing hard for a "Return to Office." This is your competitive advantage. Do you offer a hybrid model? Shout it from the rooftops. You wouldn't believe how many developers are looking for quiet, remote work, and the trust that they will deliver results. In 2026, if you’re still counting hours, you’re losing talent.
4. Be a Partner, Not a Boss
In our communications at Gifthead, we always say: "Let's build something together." This is the golden rule of retention. Sit with them, understand what they want to learn and where they want to grow, and then open those doors within the company.
The Bottom Line: Money gets people to the interview, but a real challenge and a sense of belonging are what make them stay.
Happy Holidays! And please, for the love of tech, no lemon wafers in the Purim baskets…
